Eldritch 2

Dev’s Journal – 29 Nov 2024

After taking last weekend off from Eldritch 2 work to avoid burnout, and spending yesterday and today on Thanksgiving holiday events, it feels like it has been a very long time since I did anything productive on this game. I’m eager to get back to it.

My main goal for this weekend is to build out a representative set of dungeon rooms for the first world (Innsmouth). That’s been on my backlog for two months, and I keep prioritizing other work instead. I’ve been able to defer it until now because it is already proven—it is fundamentally the same form as Eldritch‘s levels—but I think it will be fun to do and will hopefully finally close the core gameplay loop.

As I alluded to last week, the future development timeline for this game is somewhat murky. I had hoped to have enough done this year that I could set up storefront pages before the end of 2024, but that’s clearly not going to happen now. I’ve been procrastinating on a lot of art tasks, and I need to at least replace all the temporary assets with shippable assets so I can make pretty screenshots for the Steam page. Beyond that, I don’t yet have a clear sense of my velocity on any particular type of task, because I’ve been in preproduction for a year and a half and still figuring the game out. I’m optimistic that my pace will improve once I have Innsmouth done, but I can’t begin to predict a release date until then. I’ll keep chipping away at it.
