Eldritch 2

Dev’s Journal – 13 Sep 2024

Screenshot from an early version of Eldritch 2 depicting the Innsmouth level.

I’ve continued to work on outdoor spaces for the Innsmouth level. I’m not done with it yet, it’s still a bit too random and noisy, but I’m feeling much better about the overall object density compared to the state of it a week ago.

Along with the static geometry, I did a quick pass to populate the level with item pickups, which meant relearning my entity spawning system. It has evolved a lot since Eldritch and I hadn’t properly documented all the changes I’ve made for various game jams over the years. But it’s pretty robust, and should make it much easier to tune overall item distributions compared to the first game.

I’m hoping to wrap up outdoor spaces soon and start building out some of the indoor/dungeon spaces this weekend, because that’s when I think this will really start to feel like Eldritch.
